If you’re struggling with dry, flaky scalp or would just like to make a simple, natural treatment that feels cool and refreshing to the scalp and will stimulate the hair follicles to promote growth, read on for the scalp oil recipe I devised to nourish my own problematic scalp.

For years I suffered with itchy, flaky scalp, especially around my hair line. I tried every shampoo, conditioner and serum on the market but it was not until I experimented with natural remedies did I start to see a difference. Read on to find out what I use to nourish and soothe my scalp and keep my flaky scalp at bay.

I like to make my own essential oils by drying mint and rosemary leaves out and then muddle and then steep them in sweet almond oil for a week or two. I then add a dried stem and leaf of the herb into the bottle and store.
Recipe:
The following makes enough to fill a 50ml spray bottle. Adjust quantities for the capacity of your recepticle.
- 20 drops of Peppermint essential oil -antimicrobial, antifungal and has antibacterial properties, is cooling to the scalp and just smells lovely and fresh.
- 10 drops of Rosemary oil – can stimulate follicles and hair growth, is an antioxidant and woodsy, pleasant aroma compliment that of the peppermint.
- 10 drops of tea tree oil – also a known antioxidant, anti fungal, helps reduce inflammation and promotes healing
- 2 drops of Witch Hazel – a natural cleanser and an astringent agent so go easy.
- Optional – A drop of Vitamin E oil – an antioxidant and helps with hydration and protection of the scalp but Vitamin E oil does not tend to blend well in the solution, so if added, shake well before each use.
- Cold Water – dilute the solution to the top with cool water.
Shake well and that’s it. Use as often as desired. Spray on the scalp and massage in well with your fingertips (avoid using nails as this can cut and aggravate your scalp). I like to store my solution in a cool place like the fridge which feels lovely on the scalp.
Enjoy and please leave me a comment down below if you have tried this solution!
xoxo

I love the smell and feel of rosemary oil for my hair, and I’m a big fan of the tea tree scent, so I will give this a go. Thanks
