My 2022 Knitting roundup – some of my favourite projects knit in my 2nd year of knitting

Time to read 4 minutes

I have been knitting since 2020 (haven’t we all?). As a self taught knitter who spent about 8 months of 2020 trying to self-draught now completely unwearable and/or unflattering garments, I feel 2022 brought with it some improvements.

I’ve had some challenges in life recently which incidentally has led me to knit. A lot.

I primarily get the majority of my info from Youtube from various tutorials and their pattern, designer and yarn suggestions. Other times I find what I like from net searches.

Here is my roundup of most of the some of items I’ve knit in 2022:

Garments

His & Hers (below&above) “No Frills Sweater” by Petite Knit, in 100% wool by Woolly Knit “Yarn2cone” wool 4 ply 500g cone, held double in the “Cream Nepp” colour way.

A self-drafted bralette knit in self striping “Regia” sock yarn which is a cotton blend (72% cotton, 18% polamide, 10%polyester) in the “Tutti Frutti” watermelon colour way.

This is the “Novice Cardigan” Mohair edit by Petite Knit knit in 100% kid silk Mohair held double by Elizabeth Pawle in colour way “Hologram”
This is the “Ballerina Wrap Top” by Two of Wands (free pattern) knit in one strand of Plötulopi wool unspun yarn held with one strand of Drops Alpaca Silk.

Accessories

This is the “Dumpling Bag” (free pattern) by Purl Soho knit in 100% Black bird Linen by Purl Soho colour “Warm copper”

Self-drafted beanie knit in 100% wool by Lettlopi in the Black Heather colour way.
Self-drafted for necessity is a simple 1×1 ribbed cowl knit in Malabrigo Rio merino yarn.

Gift Knits

Looking back on the year, I realised that I knit quite a bit for other people.

Knitting is a great way to gift thriftily. Since I now know I have a preference for more toothy, rustic yarns, I have some skeins of merino, wool-poly blends that I won’t use for myself so knitting gifts out of them is a great way to make use of those yarns to make things for loved ones they will get use out of.

Here are some of the knits I made for friends and loved ones either for Christmas or birthday.

Husband wears the “Wide Rib hat” (free pattern) by Purl soho knit in Drops Merino cotton
This was a simple ribbed hat I gifted to my brother, knit in Cascade 220 merino wool, colour way “golden sunshine”.
This was my “Ranunculous” Pattern by Midori Hirose knit in 2 strands of Drops Brushed Alpaca silk, in the colour “Pink Sand” that I knit for my mother-in-law.
My brother in law and his wife received socks knit from various stash yarns… sock pattern was a free: “School of Sock” by Summer Lee Design Co on Ravelry.
I knitted this for my sister-in-law, this is the Rowena jumper by Fabel Knitwear knit in Woolly knit cone in the same cream nepp colour as above, but held with Drops brushed alpaca in the cream colour way. I have the equivalent yarns, but in black, waiting for me to make myself one as this is a gorgeous pattern and the combination of the woolly cone held with brushed alpaca silk just feels gorgeously soft- like butter!
These are the “Manhattan Mitts” by Tori Yu Designs, knit in “Holst Supersoft Garn” 100% wool, colour “Ember” held double, with one strand of Sandes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair, colour 3835. I gifted these to my post lady as we’ve had many a conversation on the door step about knitting. She has complimented me on some of my pieces of hand knits I happened to be wearing in the past, so I decided she was knit-worthy and knitted her a pair of hand warmers I thought she could use. The lovely thing is, I see her wearing these every morning on her rounds. I have since knitted another pair for myself.
Yes, even the dog gets knitwear. This was a self drafted doggy jumper knit from West Yorkshire Spinners Chunky roving “RE:TREAT” wool yarn.

So a productive knitting year. I have left out some of the items I did not bother to take pictures of, and I have omitted my current works in progress- maybe fodder for another post, but I think this is a good overview of stuff I’ve knitted in 12 months.
